Soul mate ! This is very lovely word but very difficult to find the soul mate in our lives who really fit the bill.
Soul mates are not class mates hence in my opinion there is only one soul mate. When we have one soul there is only one soul which can really become a mate . So we can have as many soul mates as we like theory seems to me not proper.
We can spread love all over the Universe . We say we are in and out of love many times. But I think that expression is not correct. Once we love a person we love him/her for life. The intensity may differ. When it comes to soul mate the theory is entirely different.
Either in love marriages or in arranged marriages we do not search for our soul mates. And I am not sure whether any person waits for his/her soul mate or not. People wait to find a person with whom they fall in love so that they can marry their love and live happily ever after ! The possibilities of finding their soul mate in the love he/she found and marry are as remote as in arranged marriage.
What I wonder is , what is important in our lives ? Finding soul mate? Or finding Love?
The people who prefer arranged marriages say the real love is one which grows over the years by living together and finding companionship in the life partner. And the people who prefer love marriages say till we find a person whom we love it is impossible to enter into wedlock.
So both do not talk about soul mate . What does it mean ? Finding soul mate is not important? Is it by chance we find soul mate ? And after we marry and find the person in our life is only our life partner and we find our soul mate in another person, what happens then ?
When we came to this point, our spiritual thinking helps us. Soul means Atma It is pure and for the soul nothing touches. When your soul touches another soul you must feel divine which will merge with Paramatma. So when 2 souls meet each other and that meeting gives them divine feeling of purity , then they have their soul mate!
In my opinion if our life partner is our soul mate the life becomes much more beautiful than any thing in this world. But if we find our soul mate out side the marriage, nothing wrong because for the souls living together is not important. But I disagree with the theory that you can have more than one soul mate in life.
Qs that bother me are
When we come alone in this world and leave alone this world, do we have a soul mate?
When we say Atma has to merge with Paramatma thhen where is the Qs of soul mate?
But when we agree that the soul searches for a mate and it is above physical love like Rasa leela then does the Qs of gender arise?
Then is it possible to have multiple soul mates or when we say soul mate is it going to be only one soul mate?
So friends what do you say?

j. krishnamurti said we are going to discover through our understanding of what love is not..because..as love is the unknown..we must come to it first discarding the known then that the unknown cannot be discovered if the mind is full of the known...
it might be true that we find more than one soul mate in our paths?
i guess the ones we consider to be our soul mate even for short time if we move somewhere else or move on in some aspects either guide us
or give us our drive...
the spiritsoul is well aware of who is right for us..that is how we know
so as j. krishnamurti note we are unable to discover who we will fall for if the mind is full of the known

If you function under the whole Karma theory (we take our past lives, good deeds and bad deeds into this life, and this life is where we try to work all of that stuff out) then your soul mate doesn't have to necessary be this all encompassing love that lasts forever. A lot of people say that through all our lives we travel along with the same souls. So your family, close friends, lovers, enemies, etc, were people who were with with you all along. The roles can shift in each life enemy turning to lover friend to family member, but these are who can be considered your soul mates. A lot of people consider a person they are massively in love with as the only soul mate, but the reason that confusion is made so often is because love affects us massively. It changes the direction of our lives. If the love ends or falls apart, it does not mean that we didn't find a soul mate. It just meant that this particular soul mate served a purpose in your life and its time to move on.
