I found this touching anecdote about Lakshmi the cow who was fortunate enough to live and later on ,breathe her last in Ramana Ashramam , Thiruvannamalai .

The credit for that good fortune also goes to Sri Arunachalam Pillai who insisted that he just had to donate a cow to the Ashram.
Not only Lakshmi the cow, there were also other animals who were fortunate enough to spend time with Maharishi , to name a few, a white peacock, a dog and a crow.
"Aridhu aridhu maanidarai piRathal aridhu" says Avvaiyar .
[ Rare indeed, its very rare to get a human birth].
These examples show that liberation is possible for some rare souls trapped within an animal body.
What is essential is the grace of the Guru. If he finds deserving souls , born for some reason in an animal body, [ may be to make sure they dont earn more karmas that would block their progress?] he liberates them.
This reminds of an anecdote in Sri Sai Satcharita where a circus tiger breathes his last before Sri Shirdi Saibaba.
So those of us who in our own erring ways hold on to a Guru need not be concerned. We may come back as anyone and he's sure to find us and guide us.]
My salutations to the Guru who is the human form of the supreme Brahman.

If it is true that Truth is available in its subtle form everywhere and at all times for human beings to realize, and if human beings do seek it with various levels of preparedness and enthusiasm, it should be equally true that most of them would require facilitators in their quest. Like the sought truth seeking the seeker, these facilitators, Sadgurus also seek the seekers, finding them when the seeker is lucky.
Thanks for a thoughtful blog.

Sorry for this late response. I had some browser issues to sort out.
We are used to thinking that a human birth is the only chance to make spiritual progress, but it looks like, looking at these examples, a chance may be given even when souls are trapped within an animal form. When the time is right, the Sadguru pulls the " animal" towards him like a giant spiritual magnet.
Imho, animals being animals ,have no way of adding to their bad Karma .
They too respond to the call of the Sadguru and walk the road of spiritaul progress ,just like a human aspirant whose time has come.
Warm regards

ps: I am trying to comment in the article about Dr Sethuramaih but not able to . Read the article a week ago and find the haikus , especially the ones about the child, heartwarming.
Spending time with children is a surefire way to keep young and poetic as well.
