A couple of weeks ago when oil was hitting record $140 per barrel, I over-heard a comment, which stopped me right in my tracks as I was hiking the mountains of Santa Cruz in California. I heard a fellow hiker loudly proclaim to another hiker in his group “India and China are responsible for the latest price hikes in crude oil”. I stopped him and asked him to explain himself.

Wednesday, 04 June 2008 Global Food Crisis
Food prices have been rising for a while. In some countries this has resulted in food riots and in the case of Haiti where food prices almost doubled, the Prime Minister was forced out of office. Elsewhere people have been threatened, injured and even killed. The international food crisis now has taken a new dimension with president Bush blaming the new middle class of developing nations like China and India for the shortage (see note below).

June 26, 2008: The Supreme Court has ruled today that Americans have a constitutional right to keep guns in their homes for self-defense, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun control in U.S. history. I had written a blog a couple of months ago on gun ownership and related violence. I'm reposting the article.
