A homage to a Grandfather
This is the photograph of a painting by my grandfather Late Sri Abani Kanta Lahiri. I intend to introduce his paintings as I restore them via The Medha Journal, along with his numerous stories and poems.
Shri Abani Kanta Lahiri was a student of Calcutta Art College and JJ school of Arts Bombay, India around the year 1930. He was also nominated for a scholarship to Royal Academy of Arts England which he could not pursue due to family reasons. He had many talents that included story writings, family drama and historical drama writings. His Bengali poems were regularly recited in All India Radio. His accredited work included a Bengali play "Shapnabastab" (dream that comes true) beautifully written on Bengal expatriate life. "Shapnabastab" was recognized and played by a leading Bengali newspaper group "Ananda Bazar Patrika". He was a philosopher and president of Theosophical society, Kolkata. To add to his credit he was a gifted certified homeopath doctor who cared for people selflessly.

Thanks Pradipda,
I wish my grandfather had got the recognition that he deserved. It will become clear why as the days progress and I put up more of his works here on The MJ.
There are so many unsung heroes like him -- wish we could get an avenue to discover and cherish their genius.
Warm Regards,
Dwai (Rudra)
