Dr Balasubramanian

Partha Desikan

I invite you to look at the biodata of a highly respected scientist engaged in very active research at an ophtalmic hospital and research centre in Hyderabad, India.

http://www.drdo.com/dsforum/cv.htm.

You will be pleasantly surprised to learn that this great man regularly takes time to write articles of scientific interest aimed at interested lay readers and not only in his field of specialization.

You may like to look up his article on the history of potato, for instance, by referring to The Hindu, dated October 16, 2008.

Here is a link to an abstract of a scientific publication on the 'sanjivani' plant, which is five years old. There must be more from these scientists and others collaborating with them.

sanjeevani is a Kumbhakarna too, says Dr Bala
written by P. Desikan, 2009-09-23 18:05:40
In a subsequent take on Sanjeevani by Dr. Bala, it is gratifying to note that there has indeed been a hearty response including from scientists to his first article.

The second one cites research evidence of the how of it.It talks about the miracle sugar Trehalose present in a Sanjeevani candidate, which can prevent the effects of dehydration on dying cells and freeze them by complexing into quiscent cells which can be revived by water addition!

Dr Bala muses on research conducted on identifying a herb with resurrecting/rejuvenating properties reputed to have brought Lakshmana back to life from near death.

The reference to a book on search for the Lanka of Ramayana could be of interest to some Medhavis.

Of course the Hindu had an article devoted to asafoetida by another author fully five years and three weeks ago!

written by P. Desikan, 2009-07-29 18:12:12
Now our scholar scientist is telling us everything that is worth knowing about the priceless spice from Afghanistan and neighbouring regions, known as Hing in Hindi and as perungayam in Tamil, an important trace ingredient in the culinary marvel called rasam.
And as I try to give the link here, I am hoping I do it right first time itself, as has not been my habit so far.
