Vedas, in my view and study are a more in-depth literature that unites science, history and our day-to-day life. In the way modern science has developed, people often think and feel that there is a conflict between pursuit of knowledge that our intellect aspires for and peace that our consciousness aspires for.
That is because, over a period, organized ‘religion’ has laid claim to responding to our consciousness and had founded several principles of life that we adhere to. Scientific pursuit of knowledge grew as a ‘rebellion’ against organized religion in many domains, with its open thoughts.
Vedas, interestingly, present a different picture. They present pursuit of knowledge as an offshoot of that consciousness. They say it is due to the ‘will’ of that consciousness that evolution happens. In vedic sense, organized religion is nothing but organized pursuit of knowledge and hence nothing but science.
How does a consciousness behind the evolution matter..? Actually it doesn’t in many practical ways. But in two ways it does.
First, we understand that there is a consciousness in every matter and being that plays a role. The forces that form particle and energy (Rudras) have a consciousness element in them, which is reactive. The thermodynamic principles that drive evolution (Adityas) have a consciousness element in them. The biological principles (Vasus) have a consciousness element in them.
Second, life as an offshoot of the evolution has got control (albeit in limited but increasing ways) over the evolution. In fact this principle is one of the eight Vasus as well as one of the eight fundamental biological themes of modern science. Hence the evolution that happens due to the control that life-forms exercise needs to be sustainable. If the evolution is not sustainable, it is perished and a new path started. All along the Universe, this is the way.
Devas and Asuras of Universe
In the Universe of our Vedas and Puranas, Devas are matter and Asuras are anti-matter.
At the start of Universe according to science, matter and anti-matter should have been in equal numbers, but matter seems to have subdued anti-matter and established its supremacy.
According to Puranas, at the start of the Universe, Devas and Asuras were equal in numbers. They fought a war amongst them and Devas won the war by acquiring the immortal nectar.

Thus sage agastya talks about a bond that stirs up everything in this Universe, that manifests/glows as consciousness in all the visible matter of the Universe. That bond/consciounsess is revered; having no property; Seat of all the fires/gases of Universe; one that makes everything appear; That bond/consciousness is the lord of the Universe.
Science also says at the beginning of the Universe, Mesonic cloud decays into matter and anti-matter. According to science, though matter and anti-matter were equal at the origin, due to various reasons, matter establishes its supremacy and the Universe becomes made of matter primarily.
