I am what you are

As the day comes to an end
And darkness creeps in
When the edges between day and night
start to quiver and spin

Look up to the horizon
see the majestic skies
half awake and half asleep
a palette of colors before your eyes

All that you can think of
All that you can see
All that you can experience
is not who you are, you see

I am what I am
in the core of all being
everything that can be known
arises within me

Stop looking here and there
turn your mind back to find me
I live in the heart of your heart
Right here right now and free

Stop your mind totally
stop it from moving with no end
Describe yourself to me my friend
In a fraction of a second

Breath in the cooling air
Let out a deep sigh
Settle into your own skin
Let your mind soar into that high

With eyes of wonder
look at the star filled sky
There’s nothing better than that
cross my heart and hope to die

We’re coasting blissfully
through this journey of life
half asleep and half awake
let go of all struggle and strife

All that you can think of
All that you can see
All that you can experience
is not who you think of yourself to be..

I am what I am
in the core of all being
everything that can be known
arises within me

  1. Dwai,

Some thoughts that occured to me when I read your verses

    ******
    Dear Old Soul

In the million years earth has held sway
So many beings have come and gone away
Like the train of thoughts in your brain
Matter and Beings appear, vanish in vain

Does your thought try to understand you..?
They appear, interact, enjoy, bid adieu
Universe is the brain; you are just another thought
The ‘I’, ‘You’, ‘Us’, ‘them’ exist not

A body, brain, heart all its thoughts and actions
Are just Universe’s knowledge tiny fractions
A tiny knowledge fraction may aspire the whole
Even infinite expansion reaches not the goal

Grow the fractions; Forget the whole
Not the goal; The Path is called the ‘Soul’
As more powerful thoughts evolve over time
The future of knowledge has more to come

    Keep evolving..

  2. The I in the last stanza of Dwai’s poem, as I seem to understand it, is the I that is Brahman, as an advaitin understands not the I that is Dwai. ver
TBT’s poem is addressed to the I because of the possibility that the I refers to an evolving Brahman fragment, which is not yet aware of its being Brahman.
    Am I right gentlemen?

  3. Dear Partha and TBT,

First, TBT’s poem is beautiful and should be a blog post on its own!
I too see it similar to how you see it Partha…the I in TBT’s poem seems to be from the perspective of an evolving Brahman fragment. Where as the I in the original poem is Brahman/Atman itself.

    Best,

    Dwai
