Mundaka Upanishad III

  1. This is real
Just as sparks fly off in large numbers from a blazing fire many different kinds of creatures originate from the immanent one. In it they merge again.

  2. The formless Purusha is divine. He is coextensive with all that is external and internal. He is unborn; he is without breath; he his not limited by a mind. He is pure and superior to the best.

  3. From him arise breath, mind and all organs. He is the five bhutas, Space, vayu, fire, water and earth. He is the support of the universe.

  4. Agni is his head. Sun and moon are his eyes. The directions are his ears. The Vedas are his speech. Breath is his heart. His feet are in the earth. He is the indwelling Self of all.

  5. From Him Agni (Energy) comes. The sun is the fuel for the Agni. The moon is the source of the clouds and the earth of plants. Just as a male impregnates a female myriad types of creatures spring from the Purusha.

The role of the moon may be suspect. I presume the moon’s gravity plays a role in the formation of the clouds.

  6. Every thing emerges from Him: the Rig Veda, Sama Veda and Yajur Veda. Initiation, all forms of Yagnyas and all offerings to the priests arise from him. He is the source of the eons, the worshipper and all the worlds sanctified by the moon and lighted by the sun.

  7. The various gods, including the Sadhya Gods, were created by him. Men, animals, birds and grains are his creations. So are all ordained practices austerity, truth, faith, and other activities like inhalation and exhalation.

  8. The seven sense organs arise from him. So do the seven fires, seven types of fuels, and seven oblations. The Seven worlds are also his creation.

The seven sense organs are those in the head- two eyes, two ears, two nostrils and the mouth. The rest are not clear.

  9. All the oceans, the mountains and the rivers originate from him. All the plants and their juices come from hi. He is the Self that dwells inside the Beings.

  10. Purusha is alone all this: the Universe, rituals and austerities. He who knows the supreme Brahman lodged in the cavity of the heart becomes from ignorance.

To sum up: The supreme Eternity known as Brahman is the origin of all the worlds.
    Skb.
